Updates are in chronological order, last update July 15th, 0700.
The Transpacific Yacht Race–known as Transpac–is one of the oldest blue-water races in the world, yet also at the cutting edge of global yacht racing. Balancing tradition and innovation, this iconic race from Los Angeles to Honolulu is a dynamic dichotomy of young and old competitors, classic and state-of-the-art yachts, honoring customs forged over 119 years of Transpac, while instituting modern technologies to make the race more safe, enjoyable and successful.
This year, two Pacific Northwest boats, ‘Lodos’ and ‘Mach II’ will be competing.
July 1, Start of Classes 7, 8, and 9
1415: The start went off at 1300, in a light westerly. The boats are making about 6 knots heading directly at Catalina Island. ‘Lodos’ was in this start. ‘Mach II’ is in Division 1, starting on July 3.
July 2, Lodos 103 NM offshore
0600: The boats in the first start have made it through their first night and are picking their lanes. Lodos is setting up in the second slot from the top.

Legendary tactician Stan Honey gives a great overview of the race here.
July 3: Lodos 321 NM offshore
0800: Lodos now in the top track.
Great write up in Latitude 38 here.
July 4: Lodos 533 NM offshore.
0745: Lodos now listed as 6th for line honors and 4th in Div 7. Not sure how accurate these calculations are.
July 5: Lodos 795 NM offshore
1140: Lodos now listed as 3rd in Division 7. (again, unlikely this calculation of place is relevant, but it is what we have for now)
YB Tracker (link on the Offical Website)
July 6: Lodos nearing half way mark.
All three starts have gone off and Lodos is now just over 1,000 NM offshore and sometime today will be half way there. They are currently listed as 2nd in Division 7.
Lucky is screaming along at 19 knots and covered 400 NM in the last 24 hours.
Merlin and Ragtime are side by side, about 300 miles offshore.
July 7: Lodos going high, Mach II in a drag race with Pywacket
In the 0600 PDT report, Dan Sinclair’s Mach II had made 510 NM from the start, and 247 NM in 24 hours and is taking a slightly higher track than Pywacket.
Meanwhile, Lodos has gone high and the other J/111, Picosa, has gone for a lower track. It looks like it is getting light because they are only making 8 knots. Lodos is over halfway there with 1,113 NM to go.
Bryon Ehrhart’s Lucky has clicked off another 400 NM day and has made it through about half of the fleet.
4 boats have now retired including Ragtime. Race organizer’s post with the list.
July 8: Big hole! The fleet is splitting.
Lodos is going high, Mach II is going low, both boats seem to be out of the hole and moving well. Lucky is right in the middle of the light spot and is working north to try to escape.
YB Tracker from 0600 on July 8. Lodos is above Macondo, and Mach II is the light blue boat in the bottom right, above Fast Exit II
July 9th, Lodos catching up to Picosa
YB Tracker from 0800 PDT on 7/9/25 showing the northern pack with Lodos catching Picosa (with crown), and Lucky on the hunt.
With 755 NM to go, ‘Lodos’ has done some catching up to the other J/111, ‘Picosa’ and is now in 3rd in the division. Tolga and team ‘Lodos’ made 151 NM of progress over the past 24 hours compared to 138 by ‘Picosa’.
Meanwhile, ‘Lucky’ is burning through the fleet with another nearly 400 NM day (380), and should be smoking by the current line honors leaders today, maybe even before sunset.
YB Tracker from 0800 PDT on 7/9/25 showing Mach II in the southern pack with 1,287 NM to go.
If ‘Mach II’ keeps posting 300 NM days, they will be cutting through their remaining 1,287 NM at a good clip too.
Great article in Sail-World from David Schmidt yesterday.
July 10, 2025: Lucky and the leaders neck and neck (0800 PDT report)
Clearly my prediction about Lucky getting past the lead boats before sundown last night was way off! Just now, Lucky is 20 NM behind Picosa and gaining 10 NM per hour (Lucky’s SOG is 20 to Picosa’s 10 - roughly). So Lucky should be lead line honors boat about 10 AM PDT.
Picosa has had a good night and gained a bit on Lodos (217 NM vs 203 in the last 24 hours). It does look like the three Div 7 boats Rahan, Picosa, and Lodos are punching above their weight.
This is probably a skill and navigation thing, but it also could be because the boats that started in the first start had a different challenge with the wind hole.
The line honors record, set by Comanche in 2017 of 5:01:55:26 is not going to be broken this year. The YB tracker is forecasting that Lucky will finish almost exactly one day later than that. Tomorrow right around noon Hawaii time, or 1500 PDT. Lodos the day after that and Mach II the day after the day after that.
YB Tracker from 0800 PDT 7/10/2025 - the yellow line is 500 NM to go.
Dan Sinclair and his team on Mach II have some traffic to get through as they close in on the islands.
YB Tracker from 0800 PDT 7/10/2025 - the yellow lines are 500 NM and 1,000 NM to go.
July 11: The parade into Diamond Head is about to begin.
As of 0600 PDT, Lucky had 84 NM to go and was making 21 knots, so you do the math. Rahan, Picosa and Lodos will all finish tomorrow. Lodos made 215 NM over the past 24 hours and has 291 NM to go.
YB Tracker from 0600 PDT 7/11/2025 (the yellow line is 100 NM to go)
July 12: Lodos 35 NM to go
Awesome Ultimate Sailing photos of the finishes here.
Volvo 70 ‘Lucky’ at the finish of the 2025 Transpac - Line honors, no new record.
0900: Lodos will be finishing in the next few hours. Picosa finished about an hour ago
1315: Lodos finished! Congratulations to Tolga and team. 4th in line honors, projected to be 3rd in Division 7 — but we should wait for the official results.
July 13: Mach II has 105 NM to go
1100:
YB Tracker from July 13 at 1045 PDT
July 14th, 1100
Mach II finished at 1925 PDT last night (7/13)
Standings now:
Lodos: 12th Overall, 3rd in Division 7
Mach II: 25th Overall, 3rd in Division 1
