July 19 Update after 4 races (1300 PDT)
The wing on the French boat broke. Not sure if it was during the practice day or on the way out to racing today, but either way the French don’t get to sail this event because of equipment problems.
The race course has a bunch of stuff in it that would really hurt if you hit them. Big pilings, and a very big rock right in the middle of the course. Everyone managed to avoid them.

SailGP doesn’t do results the same way we do. The order of the scores is the same, but they want high points to win instead of low points. It is convoluted enough that they have stopped creating the standard table we usually see. I find this disorienting, so here are the day 1 results the way I would want to see them.
Props to Dylan Fletcher and team GBR for delivering in front of the home crowd. Considering their recent slump, this is certainly the big story of the day. Second biggest story is Burling and Slingsby tied. During race 2 they were tangling with each other as if it were the end of Sunday — but otherwise were not near each other. So it is crazy that they end up tied after day 1.
It is supposed to be windier tomorrow. Live coverage starts at 0800 PDT.
Sunday, July 20th.
France’s boat has been repaired, so there will be 12 teams on the water. Wind is up 10 - 15 knots.

(I’ll fix up the regular sailing scoring table in a bit)
