July 14: 1100 (PDT)

In from Derek Bottles: “The wind never showed up Sunday so most boats elected to get measured in but a few did go for short sails.

Most USA boats sailed in big breeze on Saturday to get a feel for the conditions. Bigger waves then Cascade Locks but otherwise similar. “

In from Libby Johnson McKee: “No wind today so everyone is still winning! 9am start tomorrow.” with pictures:

July 15th 0700 (PDT)

The 2 day European Championship was shortened to 1 day because there was no wind yesterday. Today they got in 3 races and Seattle teams finished 1st and 2nd, with the McKees getting the edge on the Renehans:

  1. Jonathan McKee and Libby Johnson McKee: 1, 2, 1 = 4

  2. Jay Renehan and Lisa Renehan: 2, 5, 2 = 9

  3. Jeremy Hawkins and Suzanne Hawkins: 4, 3, 3 = 10

  • Chris Lanzinger and Molly Lanzinger were 7th

  • Derek Bottles and Rebecca Galfer were 12th

  • Brian Johnson and Pietro Cassottanna were 20th

  • Ellie Unger and Annie Richard were 24th

Full results here.

1000 (PDT) Update

This in from Libby about today’s three races for the Europeans: “18-20 from the north. 9am start. Had 2 races. Then it shut off and came from the south 8-10 maybe 12. Flat water and full hiking. Tricky. Only 3 races a day so all done for the Europeans.”

July 17th 1130 PDT

Day 1 of the worlds is complete. They started at 1PM with a 12 knot southerly that built all day to 20 during race 3. Derek Bottles reported that the shits and picking high mode or planing mode were making the first beat critical.

After three races the US teams are as follows:

  • Jonathan McKee and Libby Johnson McKee: 2, 2, 3 = 7 (leading the regatta)

  • Chris Lanzinger and Molly Lanzinger: 9, 8, 7 = 24pts (7th)

  • Jay Renehan and Lisa Renehan: 4, 4, 22 = 30pts (8th)

  • Derek Bottles and Rebecca Galfer: 13, 7, 11 = 31pts (9th)

  • Brian Johnson and Pietro Cassottanna: 6, 16, 25 = 47pts (15th)

  • Ellie Unger and Annie Richard: 20, 25, 26 = 71pts (23rd)

Provisional results after 3 races.

Conditions tomorrow are supposed to be similar.

July 18th (Day 2)

1000 PDT Update: After six races, and now with a drop, the US teams are as follows:

  • Jonathan McKee and Libby Johnson McKee: 2, 2, (3), 1, 2, 2 = 9pts (leading the regatta)

  • Jay Renehan and Lisa Renehan: 4, 4, (22), 6, 12, 5 = 31pts (6th)

  • Chris Lanzinger and Molly Lanzinger: 9, 8, 7, 3, 8, (18) = 35pts (7th)

  • Derek Bottles and Rebecca Galfer: 13, 7, 11, 19, 11, (20) = 61pts (14th)

  • Brian Johnson and Pietro Cassottanna: 6, 16, 25, 27, 24, (30) = 98pts (20th)

  • Ellie Unger and Annie Richard: 20, 25, (26), 23, 25, 14 = 107pts (24rd)

Race 6 must have been tough because half of our teams are dropping it. Great work Ellie and Annie for getting their best finish so far — during what I am guessing was the toughest race.

Full Results Here.

July 19th (Day 3)

1145 PDT Update - things are getting tight on lake Garda. Jonathan and Libby had an OCS, and Nick Craig and Tobytastic Lewis won all three races today and moved into first place with 10 points. Now with 2 throw outs, Jay and Lisa are making a gain to 4th place.

  • Jonathan McKee and Libby Johnson McKee: 2, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 2, (37), (4) = 14pts (2nd overall)

  • Jay Renehan and Lisa Renehan: 4, 4, (22), 6, (12), 5, 4, 6, 2 = 31pts (4th)

  • Chris Lanzinger and Molly Lanzinger: 9, 8, 7, 3, 8, (18), 6, 9, (21) = 50pts (8th)

  • Derek Bottles and Rebecca Galfer: 13, 7, 11, (19), 11, (20), 16, 10, 18 = 86pts (14th)

  • Ellie Unger and Annie Richard: 20, (25), (26), 23, 25, 14, 21, 17, 16 = 136pts (22nd)

  • Brian Johnson and Pietro Cassottanna: 6, 16, 25, 27, 24, (30), (30), 24, 25 = 147pts (23rd)

Full Results Through 9 Races Here.

July 20th (Day 4)

1000 PDT Update - 11 out of 12 races sailed, and Nick Craig has won the last 5 and extended his lead over the McKees, who are solid in 2nd, but being 7 points behind and considering Nick’s throw out is a 7th, the McKees would still be in 2nd by 1 point even if they win the final race and Nick is worse than 7th.

  • Jonathan McKee and Libby Johnson McKee: 2, 2, 3, 1, 2, 2, 2, (37), (4), 3, 2 = 19pts (2nd overall)

  • Jay Renehan and Lisa Renehan: 4, 4, (22), 6, (12), 5, 4, 6, 2, 6, 6 = 43pts (5th)

  • Chris Lanzinger and Molly Lanzinger: 9, 8, 7, 3, 8, (18), 6, 9, (21), 14, 8 = 72pts (8th)

  • Derek Bottles and Rebecca Galfer: 13, 7, 11, (19), 11, (20), 16, 10, 18, 8, 15 = 109pts (13th)

  • Ellie Unger and Annie Richard: 20, (25), (26), 23, 25, 14, 21, 17, 16, 16, 16 = 168pts (21st)

  • Brian Johnson and Pietro Cassottanna: 6, 16, 25, 27, 24, 30, 30, 24, 25, (37), (37) = 207pts (26th)

Full results here.

Tomorrow’s race will be early in the morning, which could be light and shifty — and a break from the 15-20 and waves.

Awesome pictures on the facebook page here.

Here are a few of our teams

July 21st 1000 PDT

It looks like there was no race 12, so the results above for races 1 - 11 are final and Jonathan and Libby secured 2nd place. Here is a picture of the podium ceremony.
