The Gorge was Rippin’ this Weekend

Seattle sailors were the recipients of some great Columbia River Gorge hospitality this weekend as J/70s, Laser Masters, and Tasars were hosted by Hood River Yacht Club and the Columbia Gorge Racing Association in Hood River and Cascade Locks respectively. The typical westerly delivered high end conditions and there was plenty of excitement.

J70s in the Hood River One Design, hosted by Hood River Yacht Club:

Seven races were sailed over two days and Keith Whittemore took home the top prize:

  1. Rodeo Clown, Keith Whittemore

  2. Lift Ticket, Frederic Laffitte

  3. X-Wing, Jason McCormack

A few pictures:

I think this one came from the race committee (thank you), of Lift Ticket and Rodeo Clown gybe for gybe.

And these two from Janet Laffitte’s fancy new glasses:

And these from Sean Trew’s Instagram Page:

The racing was super close with only a point between first and second, and the wingers, kiters, and board sailors were pretty close too! If you ever get a chance to sail in Hood River — make sure to be there. The wind is fresh and warm, the water is fresh and warm, and Hood River Yacht Club does a spectacular job getting the races off.

Planning is underway right this minute for next year’s event — which could include a heavy air clinic, and another event for those that stay for the Double Dam the next weekend.
